Starting with the 2.8.2 release, FTProofsheet comes with a basic installer script for Linux. This is optional, as the tarball can be simply unzipped and run in your home directory. That is basically all we did before.

Note, again, that this is a simple script, and does not check for missing dependencies. For this program to run at all, you need:

-gtk+3
-libunwind

Also, libwebkitgtk is needed for the Help and Gallery windows, as they display HTML. In its absence, FTProofsheet is designed to forward the content to your default web browser.

Having said all that, this should "just work" on out-of-the-box Ubuntu and Mint. You might get lucky on other distros. Putting aside GTK+3, libunwind is the one most often missing.

You are encouraged to inspect the "install.sh" script, to check for any possible malicious modifications. This is extremely unlikely. The main concern would be if you obtained this package from a third party, and not from your photo lab or directly from Sea Forty-One Software.

To install, cd into this directory, then do sudo ./install.sh. The script will install the application into /opt/name-of-your-lab/. The app will then be accessible in your applications menu, categorized under Graphics.

Linux is about choice. Should you prefer another location over our choice of /opt--for example,/usr/local, simply edit the install.sh script. If you so do, remember to also edit the FTProofsheet.desktop file, making corresponding changes to the paths specified in the 'exec=' and 'icon=' lines.

If you have issues, it is more expeditious to contact the developer directly, than the lab. You may do so at info@seafortyone.com. An email link exists in the progam's "About.." window.

Enjoy!
